Laal Roti Recipe
Ingredients:
1.5 c of whole wheat flour
1 medium-sized beet; grated finely
1 tsp of pepper
2 tsps of ghee salt or veg. oil
1 tsp of cardamom (powder)
1 pack of flour
1 veg. oil or ghee for frying
Extra water (for kneading)
—Mitha Laal Roti Variation—
50 gms of sugar (grated jaggery or castor*)
Instructions:
Sift flour (whole wheat) in bowl. Next, add 2 teaspoons of ghee or oil, salt, beet (beetrot) and cardamom.
After mixing well, pour some water, kneading to make even dough. Break dough to have nine equal parts, shaping these into balls. Then flatten every ball to form disc with a diameter of 5 inches.
Dust these with flour. Over low heat, cook them one by one with 2-3 tablespoons of ghee or oil. Fry rotis, flipping until the two sides have turned light brown.
Mitha Laal Roti Variation:
With the exact ingredients mentioned above, mix 50 grams of castor (fine and granulated) or jaggery (brown) sugar prior to kneading. Follow same procedure.
This serves 9.
